The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) joins alliance to implement the “One Health” approach

On March 18th, 2022, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) formally joined the tripartite partnership to implement the One Health approach. The now called “Quadripartite” brings together the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH, ex-OIE), and the UNEP.
The addition of the UNEP strengthens the environmental dimension of the One Health approach, which recognizes health as a holistic concept that involves the health of people, animals, ecosystems and the wider environment. One Health also mobilizes multiple sectors, disciplines and communities, according to the One Health latest definition made by the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) launched in December 2021 and supported by the Tripartite and the UNEP.
