On July 28th, 2022, the United Nations General Assembly declared a healthy environment a human right, which means everyone has the right to a “clean, healthy and sustainable environment.”
This universal recognition comes a few months after the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) joined the Tripartite partnership for One Health, which includes the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
The resolution of declaring a healthy environment a human right will help continue the global efforts to fight climate change; nature and biodiversity loss; and pollution and waste.
